Ink. Permanency. Irreversibility. Thinking before you create or the alternative: letting mistakes become a part of the process. Ink represents life to me. I feel there is great beauty in experiencing what exists now, accepting what is already drying on the paper and discovering what is about to be created. For me, ink means I'd rather live a life of "oh wells" than "what ifs".
I feel the same way about my job as a sports photographer. The truth is, when you shoot fast sports like I do...hockey, speedskating, bobsledders I don't care how good you are or how great your equipment is...this is what you get: crap crap crap crap GEM crap crap crap crap. And isn't that how anything worth doing always is? You're going to screw up 90% of the time. But it's worth it, for that one great shot.
***
Photographer, writer, etc. who has a great love for ink and can often be found throwing it around at paper.
Interests
Favorite visual artist
Probably my father who was a tremendous architect and could draw me anything I asked to my perpetual awe and delight.
Favorite movies
I want a movie to seduce me. Not erotically, but intellectually. It has to make me think and make me feel and make me smile and make me laugh. That said, "Ma nuit chez Maud", "Field of Dreams" and "The Lion King" are probably my very favourites.
Favorite TV shows
I rarely watch television and when I do it's because I'm watching a hockey game or a horserace.
Favorite bands / musical artists
Like film, I'll listen to just about anything if it inspires me.
Favorite books
The Epic of Gilgamesh in all of its various translations. I am also very fond of "The Picture of Dorian Grey" and "Grendel".
Favorite writers
Wilde, Stevenson, Melville, Dumas, Eric Rohmer, Tennessee Williams, Judy Blume, etc.
Favorite games
Chess, NHL 09, God of War 1 and 2 (3 was a travesty), FF12 and Dragon Age. A good story (and/or the presence of hockey) is key to me.
Favorite gaming platform
PS3
Tools of the Trade
Laptop, Ink, bristol.
Other Interests
Horseracing, hockey, mountains and fishing, quiet nights watching French films and taking a silly sort of pride when I understand them.
