Travis Jayner in the Senior Mens 1000m Semifinal on his way to becoming one of the US Seniors Short Track Champions this afternoon. Travis is one of my great loves. Even though this week was one of my busiest, shots like this and company like his make it all worth it.

This image jumped at me from the DDs, so it's clearly got impact. I do a bit of sports photography myself, and watch short-track speed skating, so I understand the background of what the photographer's doing here.
The technique is superb: Short-track speed skating takes place inside, on a standard size ice-rink and can be downright chaotic, so to isolate a specific skater during a race is impressive. To get them well enough exposed and focussed to allow the viewer to see details of their skinsuit, gloves and boots more so. When you add the 2 other skaters just arriving in shot to emphasise the dominant performance of the subject you get a very clear statement about this race.
I was reluctant to give more than 4* for Originality of Vision because it's an action sports shot, and they're always slightly a question of luck.
