Yay, I finally get to release this!
A while back, the team asked me to do a series on the captains. Of the groups I've shot before and since, these three players were the most anxious. (Channing, "A" on left, only eased up once he got to try to kill me with slapshots, Adam "other A", when he got to make a tidalwave of snow for the camera, and Marty...well, I think he just enjoyed grumbling in his incredibly deep Canadian accent.) I completely understand as this is their public image and there's always a fear of saving face in front of teammates. So about midway I started ignoring them and they started ignoring me and sure enough in a few minutes they wandered over to the boards, relaxed and started chatting. And that's when I pounced. As soon as they heard the shutter all three turned around at the same time. The rest of the afternoon went fine. But of all the shots we took, this is the one everyone pointed to. It is the least fancy, the least technical,...colour isn't much, the background isn't great and their legs are cut off, but we left it untouched, the way it was when I took it, and last Saturday this was the photo the boys signed and handed to the fans. For me, it's my favourite too, probably because when I see it, I see that whole afternoon playing out in my memories again...killer-slapshots and all.I love my job, and I'm very fond of the athletes I work with.
