Yay!

(Next Kiriban, 10,000)

Thanks so much you guys for all the kind words on my DA birthday. I am happy to say that my 100th watcher =Stief added me on that very day. Pretty cool huh? :D :D :D

For those following the Kentucky Derby trail in the hopes of winning a 3 month sub here's the latest:

Breaking Down the Derby Contenders Video: [link] , [link]

WAR PASS:

Recently came in second to "Tale of Ekati" in the Wood Memorial two weeks ago. I'm not concerned about the loss. It's the first Saturday in May that counts.

COLONEL JOHN:

This guy seriously kicked some dirt in the face of his competition in the Santa Anita Derby, which he won. A major, major contender now. Still....how will he run on the dirt (Colonel John has run exclusively on polytrack/cushion track)

PYRO: Came in a surprising and diconcerting 10th place in the Blue Grass Stakes on Saturday. It was his first race on polytrack. Let's just say he doesn't like it does he?

DENIS OF CORK: Not doing too well atm. He's a little shaky graded earnings wise.

VISIONAIRE:

Did not do well in the Blue Grass, but, hell, he was better than Pyro. He needs better.

ELYSIUM FIELDS: Off of Derby Trail...has not enough graded earnings (money from major stakes) to earn him a spot in the gate.

COOL COAL MAN: Does not like polytrack. He does, however, like Churchill. hmmmm.

EL GATO MALO: Not so sure he can get the distance or has the talent.

Other horses you should be watching: Big Brown. No horse has won from an outside position before in the Florida Derby (after the track change) except one...the mighty and beloved Barbaro. Not only did he win from the outside, but he won with lots of sunshine behind him. He is beyond impressive. But no horse since Regret (I think) has won the Kentucky Derby with only three lifetime starts. This was the case with Curlin last year and....seriously, if a freak like Curlin couldn't do it what does that say about Big Brown's chances? Monba. This horse won the Blue Grass with Pyro and Visionaire's poor performances. Watch him, he is set to keep improving. Bob Black Jack. Already set a world record during January's Sunshine Millions. He is fast, and he has heart and I like him.

For those of you near the theaters this film is showing I highly recommend you see "The First Saturday in May" It's won lots of awards and is all about the Kentucky Derby, nothing quite like a phenomenal film to get you stoked. :) Check it out: [link]

Contests:

^oilsoaked and ^sbaraci have been posting lots of info on all of the various contests taking place on DeviantART. I'm really excited about the "Express it!" contest for traditional art. [link] This awesome contest is all about letting your emotions be expressed in your artwork. First place gets 50 deviant dollars and fella-plushie! I don't care about the deviant dollars I want the DAmn plushie!!! (well, the dollars would be cool too since I really really want some prints). Get those traditional media out and start creating!! And note/comment me if you do end up posting something because I would love to see what everyone's done! :)

Projects:

I recently joined the "Something New" project run by ~TheBigBadFish this project is all about getting you to try something new. All you have to do is try and branch out and do something you wouldn't usually do and show it to the group. :) Send a note to :iconthebigbadfish: with the title "something new project: and let him know you're joining. Then try something new and note him when ya do. The more you branch out and the better it is the more points you get.

....yes, this is the project responsible for the recent deluge of evil limericks, fractals, and horrid digital doodles.

Take care!

#Museik...GO!
HEY!!! Happy Birthday to you.
My Daughters is tomorrow. Hope you have a wonderful Birthday.
I watched the trailer and saw a horse with a saddle pad with the name "Barbaro" on it. Does the movie have Barbaro in it?
Yes. The movie follows the career of the major derby contenders from 2006 (Kentucky Derby 132), of which was Barbaro. The other horses they follow are Lawyer Ron, Brother Derek and another one I can't remember.

Current Contests:
*CathARTsis IV has begun: [link]

*Unusual Anthro Holiday Contest: [link]

How to help?

Easy! Suggest a Daily Deviation, report violations or misplaced deviations (Hey, even I've accidentally posted to the wrong gallery! Eagle-eye Aida called me on in it in seconds....wooooo baby!) Or donate prizes to the many contests going on! And participate in them too. Or, hell, just don't participate in any drama you see going on.

I love DA, it makes me happy, if it does the same for you, and you've got a moment, help make our community better by doing a little something for your DA community once a week! Most of the things I've listed take no more than a minute or two to do. Even reporting one misplaced deviation a week makes a big difference.

Project Disability

A challenge to you, all of you, to do artwork with your other hand, blindfolded, or both. For a moment, try to consider what it would be like to suffer a catastrophic injury (as it might be to an artist) to lose either your vision or use of your preferred limb. You can even go further and imagine the loss of both limbs and try creating art with your teeth or your toes. I'm sure you will find as I did that: we evolve, we adapt and in a strange way, as frustrating and discouraging as it is, it helps us to come to terms with loss and the surprising font of ability and strength that comes from coping with that loss.

I hope all of you will participate. Any offers of stamps, news, features, word-of-mouth etc. Would be fantastic.
