With the recent news concerning freelance photojournalist James Foley and other almost-too-frequent-to-count losses in combat photojournalism, I thought I'd also like to open up  a discussion about PTSD, as felt by photographers who come home from combat situations and other assignments. With more and more newsrooms cutting down, 80% of war photographers are freelancers without support to cope with what they have seen and experienced.

Also here's a recent article with numerous videos discussing the role of combat photojournalism, the risks, and PTSD for those interested.

My utmost respect goes to civilian conflict photographers.  It's hard enough doing it with the support (and, once earned, brotherhood) of the military.  Because of the nature of our jobs, we walk on razors - no matter what, we're usually seen as assholes or monsters.

Since I'm at work, I can't view the videos, but now I'm curious to know how, or if, they train prior to documenting events like combat or riots.
